Lapsed customers

See who has lapsed before they are gone for good

We measure every customer against their own rhythm: for a weekly regular a missed month is a signal, for a monthly one it is not. The evidence is right there on the customer list and the customer's page.

How it works

How it counts

  1. Every purchase counts

From the purchases recorded at the counter we know who came when, and how much they spent.

  2. We learn their habit

After at least three visits, the usual gap between their visits becomes the customer's own yardstick.

  3. We flag it when they lapse

At twice the usual gap: “Has not visited in a while”; at three times: “Slipping away” — both with the actual number of days.

What else it tells you about a customer

  • Filters on the customer list

One click shows only the customers who haven't been in for a while or are lapsing, and you can sort them.

  • Falling spend

When someone spent at least 20% less in the last 30 days than in the 30 before.

  • Never came back

Someone who joined two weeks ago but has been in once at most since.

  • A reward is due

If the customer can redeem something right now, their page opens with it: at the counter it is the easiest sale there is.

  • Suggest to them

A category that sells well in your shop but they have never bought from, with a specific product.

  • Birthday coming up

If they gave their birthday, we flag it two weeks ahead.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

More questions and answers on the home page.

How does it know that someone has lapsed?

From the usual gap between the customer's earlier visits. If someone usually comes weekly and hasn't been in for two weeks, they show as “Has not visited in a while”; after three weeks, “Slipping away”.

How many visits does it need?

At least three. With fewer there is no habit to measure against, so we don't guess about new customers.

Is the customer told that they've been flagged?

No. The signal is only for you and your managers. If you want to send a message, set it up in a campaign.

How often are the numbers updated?

The customer list is updated every night, and a customer's page recalculates when you open it.

What do I need to set up?

Nothing. Just record purchases at the counter against the customer's card.
